Test in Ophthalmology Training

This course aims, through online learning and completion of an end of course test, to help you develop and improve your knowledge in using lasers in ophthalmology. By the end of the course students will be able to:

  • Define the physical and biological properties of lasers
  • Recognize the importance of laser safety
  • Demonstrate knowledge of how laser machines are used in ophthalmology
  • Recognize the different choices of laser lenses and how these should be used
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how laser treatment is used in
    • Proliferative diabetic retinopathy
    • Diabetic maculopathy

This training is appropriate for any individuals who currently use lasers in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy.

Quality Improvement in Laser Training tool (QUILT)

The QUILT simulator presents images of validated fundus photographs (DME, PDR, and retinal vein occlusion) displayed with optical coherence tomography scans (when appropriate) to plan laser treatments.

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements however we advise that all students are:

  • Able to use computer systems and must have (ideally broadband) access to the Internet (www) to complete their distance learning
  • Have sufficient competence in English to understand the course
